The 2019 ceremony of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants will be held at the Sands Theatre within the iconic Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on Tuesday 25 June.
The event will be preceded by a full programme of associated events and activities for international culinary professionals and food lovers alike.
Singapore will be the first city in Asia to host the world’s biggest annual gathering of chefs, restaurateurs, producers, media and VIPS, reflecting the city-state’s global reputation as an exciting and diverse foodie hotspot.
William Drew, Group Editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, said: “We couldn’t be more excited to host our upcoming edition of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants programme in Singapore, culminating in the gala awards in the iconic Marina Bay Sands integrated resort on Tuesday 25th June. The venue, and the host location as a whole, offers everything from street food and heritage dining to upscale celebrity chef establishments. The rich diversity of cuisine on offer in the city is incredible.”
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants is hosting a series of events beyond the awards evening itself, supported by the Singapore Tourism Board. The programme includes #50BestTalks, presented by Miele, on Sunday 23 June, where foodies will have the opportunity to hear about the latest trends in gastronomy from leading figures in the restaurant world.
This thought-leadership event platform will take the form of a live stage show, with tickets available to the public as well as invited guests. As a special addition to the programme, locals and visitors will also be able to attend a series of Masterclasses and collaborative ‘four-hands’ dinners conducted by the world’s greatest chefs over the days preceding the awards ceremony and announcement of the list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019.
The Masterclasses will offer exclusive up-close access to the cream of the world’s culinary talent, while the collaborative dinners will provide a series of unique and exceptional dining experiences across Singapore.
As Official Venue partner, Marina Bay Sands will be hosting 50 Best events on its property, including all Masterclasses, #50BestTalks, as well as collaborative dinners and lunches. Guests at the official awards ceremony will also celebrate in style at an after-party hosted by Marquee, the hotly anticipated addition to Marina Bay Sands’ nightlife line-up.
On 24 June, the chefs and restaurateurs gathered from all parts of the world will attend the traditional Chefs’ Feast at Tanjong Beach Club, where they will taste the best of Singapore’s street food from hand-selected hawker stalls. A succession of highly coveted special awards – including the elit™ Vodka World’s Best Female Chef, the American Express Icon and the Miele One To Watch, as well as the recipient of the 50 Best BBVA Scholarship – will also be announced in the weeks ahead of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants live event programme.
Ms Melissa Ow, Deputy Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board, said: “We are delighted to host a week-long series of events with The World’s 50 Best Restaurants in Singapore this June. Holding the 50 Best branded events here will not only benefit local enterprises through the creation of new business opportunities, but also help to profile Singapore’s culinary talents and brands on an international stage. We look forward to welcoming the world’s best chefs and visitors to Singapore, in what will be a truly exciting week of gastronomic experiences.”
In 2019, the 50 Best organisation has introduced a number of key changes to its Academy of voters and voting eligibility rules to promote greater diversity and inclusivity.
This includes the application of a gender parity policy in selecting voters, as well as the elevation of previous No.1 restaurants to a Best of the Best category, meaning they will no longer be featured in the annual ranking. Best of the Best creates a platform for the best chefs in the world to share their incredible knowledge and passion, and use their status for positive change.
50 Best will continue its focus on highlighting sustainability, creating opportunities for aspiring chefs and providing a platform for positive change through initiatives such as the Sustainable Restaurant Award and the 50 Best BBVA Scholarship, as well as through its #50BestTalks events and digital platforms.
