With a cryptic message “Hey what do you expect, J’ y suis, j’ y reste (Here I am, here I am staying), Andrea Petrini has announced the return of GELINAZ! on 3 December.
No details have been announced to date other than the food world can expect a GELINAZ! event on 3 December and this will also involve chef Antonia Klugmann of Italian restaurant L’Argine a Venco in Venco. She also said the same thing as Andrea Petrini, the founder of GELINAZ!, a collective of chefs that have grown over the years to include most of the most avant-garde people in the industry today.
The last time that GELINAZ! made an appearance was in Austria in summer 2017 when Andrea Petrini and Alexandra Swenden organised GELINAZ! DOES UPPER AUSTRIA, an event that was organised at Helmut and Philip Rachinger’s restaurant Mühltalhof.
There 23 chefs were divided into 7 teams who had to work on 3 matrix dishes with clearly defined ingredients. In Austria, chefs were put together to collaborate, spend time together, learn from each other and exchange idea. It was a bit of a summer camp with the added stress of having to perform outside the comfort zone.
GELINAZ! started in 2007 when Andrea Petrini and Italian chef Fulvio Pierangelini (from where the Gelinaz name came about) decided to bring chefs together for the first ever event. Since then many events have been organised involving the likes of René Redzepi, David Chang, Massimo Bottura, Mauro Colagreco and Alex Atela to mention a few names.
Fulvio and Andrea had the foresight to bring chefs together at a time when food was not mainstream as it is today and collaboration was not on the cards.
In recent years, GELINAZ! became famous for its Shuffle, an event which saw chefs swap restaurants for a service, an ambitious and intriguing project which opened the doors to new experience.
But the GELINAZ! mantra is such that gigs are not normal repeated. Will we get a shuffle on December 3? We will get to know in a few days. The only hint we have is DOMO SOPHISM.
Andrea Petrini is being supported by Patricia Meunier and Mat Gallet following the departure of Alexandra Swenden who wanted to work on new projects.
See you in a few days for more details for what promises to be an end of the year bonanza.
