KORTRIJK: Sofie Delbeke and Matthieu Beudaert known for their former star restaurant Table d’Amis and restaurant Beudaert will open a summer concept in the coming days in Sint Maarten’s square, Kortrijk.
La Bicicletta is a restaurant with a bar and will resemble a trattoria and will be an ode to Italian cuisine and to the square where the restaurant is located.
It will replace restaurant Beudaert for the summer and will remain open till mid-September. The couple are also planning
The trattoria will be open till mid-September and the couple said they want to keep what’s coming next as a surprise.
On the menu at the trattoria are a series of antipasti, first courses and second courses as well as classic Italian desserts.
Dishes include vitello tonnato, asparagus with bottarga (fish roe), bursts with taggiasche olives, a number of pasta dishes and fish and meat dishes.
“The impact of the coronavirus crisis on the hospitality industry have been hard. Not only where we forced to close our restaurants but there are also new regulations to adhere to and also an uncertain future,” Sofie said.
The biggest challenge for us is to ensure that customers feel safe and have a great night out without needed to use a yardstick to measure distances. “It is for this reason that we have chosen to create a warm terrace on the square. By allowing us to expand the terraces in the city of Kortrijk we are able to create sufficient distance between the tables. We will create a cozy atmosphere with plants and flowers between the tables to brighten up the empty space,” said Sofie.
The name La Bicicletta or The bicycle in Italian refers to the bicycle phenomena in Flanders and particularly in the city of Kortrijk.
In the kitchen, the chefs aim to use the best products from Italy and interpret them in a simple way. The prices will be affordable to cater for the general public.
Sofie will also provide a selection of Italian wines. The take-away, which was a huge success during the closing of the restaurant will resume again with the opening of La Bicicletta.
If it rains, there is enough space indoors to ensure that everyone will be safe.
On the roof terrace, guests will be able to enjoy music selected by Fred Hush and a selection of their traditional finger food, tapas and fresh summer drinks will be served overlooking the Saint Maarten church.
