ANTWERP: After several successful pop-ups, the Upper Room Bar at The Jane Antwerp will undergo a complete makeover in early 2023. Called untitled. the space will have a new interior, a new chef, longer opening hours and an attractive price tag. Chef Nick Bril has entrusted Joeri Timmermans as the bar’s new chef. Together they will create a playful and rustic menu with flavours that will be a bit more powerful than those used at The Jane.
untitled. join’s Antwerp’s Groen Kwartier, a cost hideout offering something quick for an hour and a half lunches, pre-meal aperitifs or impromptu late night cocktails. Nick Bril imagines this to be a playful environment appealing to late deciders or those who want to spend a bit less. The bar will open its doors on 19 January 2023.
The lunch menu has a light lunch menu, an a la carte menu and an extensive multi-course menu that is also served in the evening. The focus will be on fish, seafood and shellfish and vegetables that arrive from local farms such as Zilt en Zoet and the rooftop farm of nearby PAKT. Those who prefer meat will be able to select it from the aging station that is being integrated into the interior.
Timmermans has worked in Australia and Asia so you can expect robust flavours from around the world. He loves roasting and barbecue and you will be able to taste that in his dishes. The menus start from EUR 65 to EUR 99 making an experience at The Jane more accessible.
The chef is from Netherlands but has worked in Australia, Singapore and Malaysia for the past 10 years. After the birth of his second child he felt the need to return to Europe.
The sommelier is the same as for The Jane and you will find a selection of natural and biodynamic wines. The bar also welcomes those looking to pop by for a cocktail and some bar food upon availability. Guests of The Jane can also linger for an after-dinner drink at the new bar.
Berlin Creative Agency have been responsible for the redesign of the bar. The entire bar is wrapped in linen, filtering out the harsh light of day and creating a warm setting of soft hues. The natural monochrome tones of the interior seamlessly complement the marble bar. There are no separate tables but guests sit at the bar in the front row of the open kitchen.
untitled. is open on the same days as The Jane Antwerp from Thursday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. It will be open from 11.30am to midnight.
The Jane Antwerp is a gastronomic restaurant in the chapel of the former Military Hospital Antwerp. Nick Bril was recently named chef of the year of Gault & Millau.
