BARCELONA: Some of the world’s best grillers will convene in Barcelona between 2, 3 and 4 June for the first Meat & Fire festival to be held in Barcelona. Held at the Moll de la Fusta in the Port Vell, it will occupy an area of 6,000 square metres where for three days a 45 of the best grillers in the world will be on 30 grills and attendees will be able to taste dishes made with different cuts of meat.
At Meat & Fire there will be different spaces within the festival itself: shared spaces set up for attendees, outdoor bars, stages for musical events and a marketplace where you will find different artisans with products related to meat and grill.
“Fire is an ancestral element and a vehicle for enhancing flavour. It is a technique, a tradition, an ally. It is primary, it is ember, it is smoke, and it is primordial. Meat, in its many forms and interpretations, is flavour, texture, gastronomy, identity and quality. And thanks to our passion for fire and meat, this festival is born,” said the creators of the festival Xosé Portas and Iñaki López de Viñaspre.
In addition, there will be an extensive programme of showcookings, talks and masterclasses where attendees can learn all about the product and this ancestral technique.
At Meat & Fire the most reputable grillers on the national scene will share space with guest chefs – all selected at the discretion of the organisers. Each of the chefs will bring their different grills, chulengos, kamados, smokers, robatas, wood-fired ovens, Chinese boxes, etc., where they will prepare their creations always with the best meat on the market: real, honest, quality meats and with absolute respect for the animal.
The festival encompasses a whole philosophy on life and an identity. Playing with fire is brave, daring, being reborn from the coals, from the ashes. Meat&Fire is about technique, tradition, partnership. It’s primitive, it’s primal, and it involves a lot of smoke. A return to the origins, to slow-cooked food, to flavours that can transport you to another time and place. An ancestral, primitive technique that has evolved and been perfected around one product: meat.
Meat & Fire will bring together lovers of fire and meat. An event where enthusiasts, professionals, and simple passers-by will be drawn in by the aromas created by the guest chefs and grillmasters. All centred around fire in its purest form. No extravagance. No frills.
