Food and Wine Gazette was launched in September 2014. In four months, readers from over 110 countries have visited the website with most of the visitors coming from Belgium, followed by the United States and the Netherlands.
Our top reads to date were the following:
1. Grant Achatz (Alinea): A genius of molecular cuisine
2. Carcasse: A restaurant by one of Belgium’s best butchers, Dierendonck
3. A review of Massimo Bottura’s great book Never Trust a Skinny Italian chef
4. Mauro Colagreco (Mirazur) showcases three great dishes using collagen
6. Fulvio Pierangelini – an Italian chef in exile
7. De Superette (Gent): The bakery with a difference
It has been a busy first few months with visits to Chefs Revolution in Zwolle and Chef Sache in Cologne as well as participation in a number of events in Brussels such as the Vini Birre Ribelli which focused mainly on natural wines and Saveurs de Toscanes.
Apart from the above mentioned articles which were the most visited, we particularly enjoyed writing about wine mistakes that restaurants make, which struck a chord with many of our readers who engaged on social media. We have also tried to raise awareness about the issue of food waste which will be one of the main themes of the Milan Expo this year.
In these months, we have interviewed some of the world’s best chefs as well as winemakers and have also given tips on places to visit, not necessarily to eat or drink, but also travel tips such such as our top 10 things to see in Valletta, Modena – a delightful city for the gourmet traveller and a guide to Champagne.
Every week, we compile a roundup of weekly reads on food and wine which has proven to be very popular with our readers. Every month, we showcase some of the best wines we have tasted during that particular month. These can vary from wines with a great price/quality ratio, wines to drink on a weekday or wines which may be enjoyed on special occasions.
We have also written about the Maltese artisanal brewery making craft beers Lord Chambray as well as interviews and tastings with Paolo Dettori of Tenuta Dettori, Elisabetta Foradori of the winery by the same name and Giusto Occhipinti, one of the winemakes of Azienda Agricola COS.
