The Gelinaz! gang, a collective of chefs that was formed by Italian food journalist Andrea Petrini, is back with another unique event after the successful organisation of Gelinaz shuffle last year. 14 chefs will be teaming up in pairs in an event called Walk with Us London. The event, which has been a sell out, takes place on 28 February.
The chefs will be randomly teamed-up. Each Gelinaz! chef-duo will create four dishes (two starters, a main-course and a dessert). They will interpret and remix two original four-course menus specially created for the event by Isaac Mchale of The Clove Club and James Lowe of Lyle’s.
The restaurant in which each chef-duo is placed will only be revealed on the evening of the event. The organisers have promised the service will be ‘a little shaken-up’. “Expect the evening to be interrupted, to leave the premises and….Walk with Us!” Gelinaz have said.
The organisers have said that because of the concept, they are unable to cater for dietary requirements. Guests have been asked to be at the restaurant at 5.30pm and allow six hours for the full experience. In total guests will go through a 16-course tasting menu.
The list of chefs taking part in the event are Enrico Crippa, Mauro Colagreco, Peter Nilsson, Mathieu Rostaing, Davide Scabin, Lee Tiernan, Isaac Mchale, Claude Bosi, Christophe Hardiquest, Philip Rachinger, Niko Romito, Margot Henderson, Andrew Wong and James Lowe.
Gelinaz! is a collective of international chefs. It promises to push boundaries and take risk as a starting point. The aim of the chefs is to discover new cultures and to exchange knowledge. They want to invent collaborations with artists, musicians, scientists, thinkers and producers, never repeating themselves and exploring the unknown, charting new territories to sharpen creativity and zooming on the beauty of nature and its elegant chaos.
In 2013, the chefs met in Ghent and Lima. This was followed last year by 28 chefs taking over the kitchen of Wylie Dufresne in New York to pay a tribute to one of the most distinguished avant-garde chefs.
In July 2014, they met for a Gelinaz spiritual retreat in Tuscany to prepare future Gelinaz! gigs for the next three years.
In July 2015, they organised the Gelinaz shuffle, an event which saw over 30 of the world’s top chefs swap restaurants for an evening.
