The first international gastronomic festival of Wallonia will take place on 1, 2 and 3 July at the Citadel of Namur. The congress is being organised by Generation W, the collective of chefs from Wallonia led by chef of L’ Air du Temps, San Degeimbre.
The congress, which brings some of the world’s best chefs to the southern region of Belgium will be held on Monday 3 July. During this unique seminar, professionals and students of gastronomy will be able to meet with their peers as well as people working in the field of gastronomy, the members of Generation W.
They will discuss the latest trends in gastronomy. The focus will be on the human, on the importance of management, team spirit, creativity, social issues, women’s place in gastronomy and the management of international restaurants.
Among the confirmed speakers are Benallal Akrame, chef of Restaurant Akrame and Atelier Vivanda (Paris and Hong Kong), Bo Bech, chef of Restaurant Geist in Copenhagen, Denmark, Quique Da Costa, chef of Restaurant Quique Da Costa in Denia, Spain, Sang Hoon Degeimbre, chef of L’ Air du Temps in Liernu, Belgium and San in Brussels, David Martin, Chef of La Paix in Brussels, Frederic Keyser of Le Bristol and Epicure in Paris, Bernard Lahousse, Foodpairing Founder, and Maria Canabal, journalist and founder of Parabere Forum.
The event is open to the general public on Saturday and Sunday. During the W Food Festival, visitors will have the unique opportunity to discover the gastronomy and terroir of Wallonia, meet chefs and also producers from the region.
The programme features an open kitchen, shows and demonstrations as well as a specially designed space for children. Each evening there will be a five course 10 hand gourmet dinner. To celebrate the festival’s first edition, the W Food Festival has decided to honour the beers of Wallonia. Apart from tasting the beer, the chefs will show how this product is used in Wallonia gastronomy. A beer will be specifically created for the event.
