The Belgian city of Bruges will host the 2019 congress of the Jeunes Restaurateurs Europe (JRE), the new president of the Belgian association Olivier Massart announced. This is the second time that the event is being organised in Belgium, the first congress was held in Brussels in 2005.
Massart, the chef of O de Vie in Juprelle said the congress will focus on the theme the Gift of Good Food – never ending passion and is expected to attract over 300 chefs together with their partners from all over Europe.
The association JRE groups chefs between the age of 23 and 49 and has around 30 members in Belgium.
The new president said that he will be following in the footsteps of his predecessor Steven Dehaeze who carried out sterling work over the past years while introducing new activities and introducing new members to the association. “I would like to thank him for his work,” he said at a press conference organised at Le Coriandre, a Brussels restaurant that forms part of the association.
While the treasurer of the association remains the same (Olivier Bauchi of La Gloriette a Marche), the new secretary will be independent and is Nathalie Vercruysee. David Heine (Fleur de Thym) is responsible for Wallonia and Jo Grootaers (Altermezzo) is responsible for Flanders.
There will be two annual events organised this year. These are the JRE Cooking Cup which takes place at the end of this month and the Fine Dining Banquet which is organised on 30 September. The latter is a dinner that was started 2 years ago and brings 16 chefs together to participate and cook for 300 persons. The purpose of this dinner is also to bring the chefs together to collaborate and share recipes.
The general assemblies of the JRE (Belgium) take place in March and September. New members of the association for 2018 will be presented at the March assembly while the September general assembly will focus on the work that needs to be carried out in 2019.
